Janita Jackson considers herself a self-taught artist in that she has no formal educational training in the art field. However, she has taken many classes and workshops. Ann Templeton, Bobbie Kilpatrick, Ben Konis, Joni Falk, Dick Turner, and Francis MaCauley are but a few of the instructors on the list.
Janita started painting in the early 80’s and has been a serious painter for the last five years. Until 1997, she painted in between the raising of her two children and working in her family’s businesses in Brenham, Texas.
Janita finds that painting lights and shadows are fascinating in the development of a work of art.
Still life, florals and landscapes are Janita’s primary subjects, although she does not limit herself to these. She works mainly in the medium of oil, but enjoys working with watercolor as well. She has competed and won awards in numerous juried competitions in local and surrounding area shows. She has paintings hanging in private and corporate collections in California, Louisiana and Texas. Janita’s latest award was a first place in the Open Market Show in Arizona, judged by Harley Brown.
